[Healeys] SAE 140 Use In Differential To Reduce Noise?

Rebuilding your diff is the only way to go. Thicker oil might reduce the 
noise for a while, it does not compensate for wear and may be the cause 
for even more wear: higher viscosity > higher heat build up > 
degradation of oil.
If the diff is a bit noisy do not overly worry. .There are probably a 
lot more miles in it. Watch sludge/metal particles in the oil and use a 
magnetic drain plug. This will quickly show steel particles.
Once you can turn the drive shaft for more than 30 degrees it definitely 
is time for action
