The guy from Pertronix is trying to help you eliminate all potential problems with your ignition system here.  

The screw leads on the distributor cap do not work well with carbon graphite plug wires.  This is the case whether Pertronix is installed or not.

Removing the B/W wire from the boot switch eliminates a potential grounding short for the ignition which can happen when the boot switch fails.  Again, this problem can happen whether the Pertonix EI is installed or not.

He is not trying to sell you a distributor, and in fact is trying to help you avoid buying a distributor from him with this advice.

Be thankful for the Pertronix guy trying to be helpful.  I've always found them to be a first class group of people.
