I think the problem is definitely an electrical connection somewhere. The
battery voltage is 12.5 and it is turning the starter no problem but there
is not a mumur of any attempt to catch.

All electricals work fine, the FIA switch has now been taken out of the
circuit and there is 12 volts at the distributor, plus the black/white wire
has been removed. The points were new and installed 4 days ago and I
haven't opened the distributor since. The car fired into life first time a
few hours ago, now there is not a scent of it happening again.

Is the wiring diagram for a BJ8 different from a 3000. I have a BJ8 engine,
electronic tach, (Not original type) , running negative ground with an
alternator. My 100-Six wiring diagram shows two white wires to the coil,
one goes to the fuse box and the other to the ignition however I have just
noticed my car has only one wire going to the positive terminal of the
coil. Is that correct? The connections at the fuse are also mickey mouse,
trying to shove four wires into one connection that simply isn't up to the
tax. A modern fuse block is on my shopping list.

All I can think of is that the problem is at the ignition switch. I have
problems getting what I consider to be a good connection for the two white
wires, one of which goes to the coil of course. Presumably a bad connection
there could cause the failure to generate a spark. Or maybe I have cooked
the coil.

It is is incredibly frustrating especially as it started no problem just a
few hours ago. Suicide is looking like an option
