Subject: Re: [Healeys] Parkerizing

The danger of exposing high tensile strength steel to plating or pickling
solutions is that the hydrogen atoms in the acid solution will migrate to
the steel, causing embrittlement. In industrial plating of high-strength
steel, the items are baked in an oven after plating according to a
particular time and temperature schedule to avoid hydrogen embrittlement.

I have no experience with Parkerizing, so I don't know if the process would
affect high-strength fasteners or not.
