 Sounds as if Reid is having the same experience with Motorbooks that we had:
they are absolutely fierce in enforcing the author's deadline to get the
material in, then drag their feet and drag their feet doing the layout work,
and finally, because the deadline has slipped so much, demand that the author
do the proofreading in literally 72 hours. The result is a book that may be
reasonable in content, typically doesn't have the benefit of the author
working with the layout editor, and suffers from typos introduced in the
layout work.

And the niche book industry wonders why it is being supplanted by online
publishing.

My letter from amazon said the pub date had slipped again and I had to option
to cancel my preorder or  let it ride. I let it ride.
