[Healeys] pre-lube bearings b/4 startup

Hi Gary,

I believe it was Rich Chrysler suggesting to turn over the engine
with spark plugs removed until oil comes out of the oil line at the dash, keep
a rag handy and connect to the gauge and repeat until pressure reads on the
gauge. Maybe somebody can confirm this practice.

Since my engine had been
sitting for 20+ years I went a step further. Charlie Hart came by with an
electric oil pump and we pumped a quart or so through the oil port on the side
of the block where you connect the flexible to the oil pressure line to the
gauge. This leads directly to all the oil passages, rocker shaft, cam and
main bearings. We did see the oil coming out of the rocker shaft oil holes.
My engine was rebuild 20 years ago, had run but the project never finished
and the car had been sitting in storage before I bought it. We treated the
engine as a fresh rebuild and ran it in accordingly with advice from the list.

There are a couple contraptions you can buy or build that allow you to use
air pressure to force oil in the engine through this port, any canister or
tank that can hold some pressure could do this. Called a pre-lube tank I
believe, check the web.

Bert

Subject: [Healeys] pre-lube bearings
b/4 startup

On an engine that is assembled & has been sitting for a very
long time,
someone recently mentioned pre-lubing the bearings before
attempting to spin
the engine with the starter to establish oil pressure.
Specifically on a 100,
how is that done?
