I had my overdrive & transmission rebuilt by Quantum Mechanics approxamately
4-5 years ago. Initially, all was well, however recently the overdrive has
developed a leak between the brake ring & either the rear housing or the main
housing. I cannot tell if there are gaskets between these parts. There is
evidence of some kind of sealant. I have verified that the nuts are tight
around these components. As far as I can tell none of the gasket kits
available for the overdrive include a gasket for these two joints. I know I
could make a gasket but I would like to know if any supplier sells this gasket
either separately or in a kit. What is the best sealant for this
application?
Second issue. Originally, the overdrive shifted into overdrive nice & crisply.
I drive about 6000-8000 miles per year. I keep the transmission topped up with
the appropriate oil. Recently, the shift into overdrive has become sluggish.
Initially, when the car is at ambient temp. (80 degrees) the shift can take as
long as 2-3 seconds. After it is warmed up it takes about 1-2 seconds to
engage. I have verified that when engaged an appropriately sized pin can be
inserted into the lever & alignment hole on the side of the O.D. Do you have
any thoughts on what may be causing this?
