[Healeys] Fuel Mixture

    Hi All
            On my BT7 when I do a tune up the plugs always appear sooty
indicating it is running rich
            However when I clean the plugs clean and adjust the points Remove
the three air cleaners
            balance the carbs adjust the mixture screw  lift the piston with
raising pin the engine wants to stall.
            The car drive good engine perform as expected. However when on a
trailing throttle down steep hill
            I get a burbling through toe exhaust Which would indicate to me
that the mixture is about right
            But I cannot explain the sooty plugs. The engine does not burn or
use oil any suggestions would
            be appreciated
