[Healeys] Steering box end cover

I plan to put the heavier steering lube in my steering box when it 
goes back into the car, so this probably won't be an issue ...however:
I can't help wonder how one can seal the end cover gasket, when 
you've got all those shims between the cover and the gasket. If I 
were using gear oil, I'd want to put Hylomar or something between the 
shims.. .am I misunderstanding something?
