Jorge,
If it has been idle for a long time, your battery might be low. I would
charge the battery and clean the terminals before blaming the starter.
Also take the cap off the end of the starter and rotate it to make sure
it is free and not on a dead spot. Also try bypassing the solenoid. If
that doesn't work, I would get an estimate to have it rebuilt locally.

Subject: [Healeys] BJ8 starter

I think I killed the starter om my BJ8 today. The car has sat idle for a
while and it ususally takes a fair amount of cranking before it comes
back to life. Today I heard this unusual noise from the firewall area
and then it would not crank. I can hear the fuel pump clicking away but
no cranking.
What is the common wisdom on the list when it comes to starters?
DIY rebuild?
Buy a rebuilt unit and from whom?
Have it rebuilt and by whom?
Moss or VB?
Looking forward to your advice.
Thanks
