[Healeys] BJ8 Rear Seat Removal

Hi Randy,This is something that I just did not very long ago.  First, remove
the nuts from the studs (4 on each seat pan) which extend down through the
back deck.  Soak them in penetrating oil and carefully remove the nuts and
then pull the seat pans out.  The nuts are accessed from the rear wheel
openings.  Although you won't need to remove these just to replace the carpet.
To remove the rear seat back/parcel shelf you need to remove the four
posidrive screws (2 on each side) from the panel in the rear wheel wells.  The
heads of these screws are in the wheel well on a vertical plane above and just
to the rear of the bump boxes.  These screws secure the seat back frame to the
side panels.  The two rear quarter panels have holes in them which those
screws go through as well.  Also there are three screws that go down through
the bottom seat back frame member into weld nuts--remove those screws.  You
can then remove the entire seat back and frame as a unit.  Then remove the
upholstery screws along the front aspect of the rear quarter panel inboard of
the shut face pillar. Remove the two chrome dome nuts on each rear quarter
panel.  The quarter panel can then be removed exposing the top spring and
mechanism.  Having done all that you will have a clear view of all the carpet
around the inner wheel wells and back panel where the three drain tubes are
located.  The center drain tube is covered with carpet and the outer two are
not.  In order to change out the carpet on the parcel shelf I took it to an
upholsterer with the new carpet and he installed it very reasonably and
neatly.  Frequently though the T nuts in the seat back frame are rusted and
come apart when you remove the screws so you may have to take the material off
the frame to replace them.  Hopefully the wood isn't rotten like mine was so
you won't have to rebuild the frame.   Hope this is clear and helpful.  I have
