[Healeys] soldering fitting to steel fuel line

I was having a similar problem with a fuel line on my sons VW last 
year, my machinist brother in law said that if the line is stainless 
you need to use a special solder called "silver solder".  I did and it 
worked.

Not sure but from what you describe sounds like a similar situation, if 
the solder blobs off and doesn't stick you may be working with non-
compatible materials and this may be your fix.
