[Healeys] Dip stick length?

Greetings Listers,
  Ineed a dip stick for an early BJ8 engine I have, but have not located 
a used one, and they are not listed in Moss or VB catalogs. I bought a 
universal smallblock chevy replacement, and it does fit well in the tube, 
but I don't know if the length is correct. This one measures about 18 
3/4 inches from the seal to the end. Would someone please tell me 
the correct length?
