I too have a 30ish' x 40' footprint. Mine is a little different than Bob's as it is a single slope roof partially tucked up under our house. I have just enough height where my lift is to put the TR3 at full lift height with the bonnet open. If I put a tow vehicle (suburban or truck) I would not be able to lift it to the max lift height. I think the bottom of the roof purlins are about 14' off the slab where my lift is located.
Build as big as you can from the get go, it will never be enough space, and it will never be cheaper
Minimum 10' interior clear ceiling height, but go with 12' if you want any of your lifts near the low point

I built a 30x40 with 10 foot walls and a 10x10 roll up door centered in the front. I have a 2 post in the forward 20" and a 4 post straight behind it, although that one is portable. I've had pickup trucks and a Land Rover on my lift, although that is rare. If I was doing a narrower shop I would have had to go to 12' walls and pay the extra. I, do wish I had done 10' more depth.

If you were going to put up a new shop building, and wanted to have a 4-post lift (or two) for your race cars and other projects, what sort of interior height/wall height would you go for? With our collection of Triumphs and Spec Racer Fords, I feel like I could get away with 10 feet. Is 12 feet necessary?
Looking to minimize possible spousal objections concerning the perceived egregiousness of eyesore…
