What’s the difference between the 51515 and 51515R?
My Sunbeam Tiger uses the 51515 and it’s convenient to have to only one filter for both that and the Triumph. 51335 is the short version that some use on the Tigers to avoid oil line leaks when headers aren’t involved.
Happy New Year,

Hi Brian,
I’ve noticed a couple of different WIX 51516, which appear to be made differently, (inlet hole and valve flap material differences) and it was the manufacturing country indicating the difference…. Although I didn’t have an issue with either. Wix does specify the microns they will filter down to, so I suppose we have to trust that they are all manufactured to the “same” specifications on the parts that matter. But, I know that sounds like a crazy leap of faith. (LOL)
I also cut apart my filters to examine what’s going on; I haven’t found anything concerning about the filter (or my engine - yay) yet.
Hope that helps!Dave Gott

Thanks for the responses GuysCountry of origin really doesn't bother me until it impacts quality. The story was someone did a cut away and the internals were inferior, implying that when the manufacturing was offshored either the spec differed or those manufacturing took liberties. And the trouble was, looking from the outside, everything looked the same. No idea of what made them do the cut away. All that said, I don't want to malign anyone without evidence, this is all hear-say. (I was looking to FOT for experience), maybe I can get Bob-is-the-oil-guy to peel a couple apart. Meanwhile I have two on the shelf from Mann & Hummel (a German co) mfg in NC and these were about $10 per.CheersBrian

Hello All Tractor Engine Enthusiasts:
The Wix 51516 that I buy from Moss Motors is made in Mexico. The Napa Gold 1516 supposedly made by Wix is also make in Mexico. I used to be in the oil filter business. The country of origin has to be on the product.
Oil filters are made in many countries. My son-in-law bought an oil filter for his Porsche Cayenne from Autozone that was make in South Korea. They should be made my Mann or Malhe, etc. I bought a 5/16 in universal fuel filter once made in Russia of all places. I used to sell fuel filters made in Israel. Check the country of origin when buying all automotive products and then make your determination as to if you want to buy them or not.
Good Luck.

Ok Dudes and Dudetts - first, Happy New Year!
Take a look at the quick search of prices on the Wix 51515R filters $10.79 to $19.97
I was talking with someone about this and who knows where the story came from, or accuracy, but the net net was they are allegedly now made in China and when cut away, no longer the same quality as in the past.
Fact or Fiction?? anybody know? and what are you using?
