[Fot] SU float needle/seat

Hi Jason, thanks for the reply. I think that is exactly what is happening. The car starts and runs very crisply, but after a few laps of the yard the O2 tells me it goes very lean and then it stops. Fuel pressure is still good. When I check, the fuel is very low in the front bowl, and the front two plug shows lean. I will carefully break that edge as you suggest.

Thank you,
      Andrew Devenish

Andrew,

I presume they are sticking closed, not open?

I've seen some where the brass seat has a sharp edge that grabs the viton, locking it shut.

I take a small center drill and break the sharp edge by hand. That seems to help.

3 to 4 psi is plenty high enough. I run closer to 2 psi on mine.

Jason

Hi All, am having a little trouble with the needle/seat in my SU HS4 using the AM viton tipped parts from Moss. Using pressure 3-4 PSI (running) they have a quickly (< 1 hour use, but a lot of assembly/disassembly) shown a visible line, and are now sticking. Is there a recommended source for these parts ? I see 070 and 096 bore parts offered - which is considered best for HS4 on a race 1300 ?
Should I be running higher fuel pressure ?

Thank you,
      Andrew Devenish

I always used the Hawk Blues on my Spitfire racer and liked those as well, though they didn't have to deal with the same heat as was generated by my GT6 brakes at Blackhawk. The Hawk Blues I use on my Spec Racer Ford also work really well and stand up to enough heat to turn the rotors blue. If you're unhappy with the Carbotech pads, the Hawk Blues are a good option, in my opinion.
