That appears to be an Autopower street roll bar that typically bolts to the sheet metal rear shelf.  It’s been added to, and raised up I think, to be tall enough, as originally intended to go under the folding top.   (I have one on my street car).  This is pure speculation on my part of course.  If I were looking at it, I’d factor in cost for a modern cage install.  Seems nice on other points!
Just my perspective!  Dave Gott

On my old TR4A I wanted to keep the appearance of the rollbar structure so that it looked the way it raced in period. I had heavy brackets made that fit between the rear trailing arm brackets to create a place to bolt the rear hoop. It landed right in the corner of the wheel well and b-post. I had to weld tubes into the t-shirt frame member, the way they did it with the trailing arms to make sure that the mounting bolts were safe, but it worked. It also made more room for a taller driver.

I agree, I noticed the attachment looked kinda weird.  Mine bolts directly to the chassis on the side rails.  I don’t know what there is to bolt to in that location, maybe the crossmember for the diff mount?  Not the most desirable spot to mount.

the blocks under the rollbar look like a shear possibility.
