Well at this point, one may ask the question, do you want to look cool or go fast...?(ha ha!)

That's a really great photo of an amazingly period correct TR3 with wires. Very inspiring. Even the mirror are factory original style. Cool. Dave H.

I dont think I've seen a tractor TRiumph on wire wheels since Don Brick retired many years ago. And, before that several of us had tried to convince him to get at least some TR6 steel wheels if not old looking style Panasports or similar.
I will join others that encourage you to not run wires. But, if you must, check each and every one of the 72 spokes at least every day of competition look for loose or broken ones. They were not designed for modern tires. Get a very small tack hammer and play them like a piano tuner. If one is loose it will not ring as it should
btw, even TR6 steel wheels arent the perfect answer. We started cracking them on "modern" tires 20+ years ago. And tires have only gotten stickier - if that's a word

Triumph racers, Karen and I are looking to get our TR-3 together so I can race it in the Kastner Cup next year at RA (she'll race her TR-6), and I am looking for some insight on wire wheel sizes people are using. I will be running wires likely with Hoosier Speedsters, and am curious what others are using. 72 spoke, or 60? 15 x 5" or 15 x 6"?
Thanks much! Jake Jacobsen
