CR will be governed to a considerable extent on the fuel you intend to use, so think about that early on and get comments from others using the same fuel. As im in Australia, i can't comment on US local fuels or any race category regs related to that. Most of our engines run on 98RON unleaded
there are various thickness 2000 & 2500 heads all with different cc's in the combustion chamber, and even more so if you decide to do radical combustion chamber mods to get more clearance around the valves
we have found that squish plays a significant role in the 2000/2500 engines and its a lot of experimentation to get it even close to "right" mostly, we try to have the piston crown just above the block, but obviously not above the gasket line. if you decide to use lumpy top pistons, make sure you have a distinct squish band on them.
FWIW, I agree with the various other comments about stock crank, . on our engine we use a modified BMW harmonic balancer to improve matters over the stock TR one

Now that we have the crank and rods figured out, how about we discuss making compression?
I know this can be a sore subject and everyone has an opinion as to how much is enough or too much so where do we start?
I have built a couple TR6 engines that were in the 13:1 range thanks to much head milling and pop up pistons. Will the 2.0 litre engine be the same ?
Thanks. P.J.
