CR will be governed to a considerable extent on the fuel you intend to use,
so think about that early on and get comments from others using the same
fuel. As im in Australia, i can't comment on US local fuels or  any race
category regs related to that. Most of our engines run on 98RON unleaded

  there  are various thickness 2000 & 2500 heads all with different cc's in
the combustion chamber, and even more so if you decide to do radical
combustion chamber mods to get more clearance around the valves

we have found that squish plays a significant role in the 2000/2500 engines
and its a lot of experimentation to get it even close to  "right"  mostly,
we try to have the piston crown just above the block, but obviously not
above the gasket line. if you decide to use lumpy top pistons, make sure
you have a distinct squish band on them.

FWIW, I  agree with the various other comments about stock crank, . on our
engine we use a modified BMW harmonic balancer to improve matters over the
stock TR one
