[Fot] Tumble cleaning - then treating the hardware?

I haven’t had long enough experience with this to know yet how well it protects against corrosion but it does produce a nice black finish that is reputedly rust resistant. Heat up the clean parts and drop them in used motor oil (the dirtier, the better, presumably, so it’s time to finally change the oil in that old lawnmower). Stand back and provide good ventilation.
