Slide 15 of 77: The first cars to feature windshield washers as standard
were the 1935 Triumph Gloria and Vitesse. It was a vacuum-operated system
rather than electric, and only closed versions of the car got such
technology – presumably those who bought an open-topped car were expected
to just stick their head over the top of the screen to see the way

WINDSHIELD WASHERS: Triumph (1935)
The first cars to feature windshield washers as standard were the 1935
Triumph Gloria and Vitesse. It was a *vacuum-operated system* rather than
electric, and only closed versions of the car got such technology –
presumably those who bought an open-topped car were expected to just stick
their head over the top of the screen to see the way ahead.
*GROUNDBREAKER SCORE: 8 *– very handy.
