[Fot] Under Hood Vents

I had one on my ‘66 TR4A - really liked it and didn’t find it hard to install at all (same time to erect as my MK2 Spitfire soft top!).
The design stopped the wind buffeting in the cockpit. The center aluminum panel would not fit in the boot or in the cockpit. It was for wintertime. The soft top was for top down weather - quick changes for inclement weather.
They are pricy now and desirable for TR4, TR4A, TR250/5. Been thinking about getting one for my TR250 road car.
The plastic version Looked like the surrey (w/out removable center) and was sold into TR6 production.
Yes, Porsche copied it & renamed it! Triumph led the way with the idea! Triumph was often the first in many of the features on their cars, like: disc brakes, roll up windows and more - Read the Original Triumph TRs by Piggott. Great resources!

I don't know how many they ultimately made but you better be able to anticipate rain by about a half hour to erect the soft center piece with its "erector set" framework, thumb screws that you have to be a contortionist to screw up into the rear section from inside and then the little hooks and snaps that keep it from flying off!!! The hooks on the windshield post and rear post were really good at gouging you when you were in a hurry. It was good in theory and looked good but very crazy in execution!!! Not much structural integrity either as it was a giant cast piece of aluminum or pot metal. It just bolted on in place of the convertible frame. Triumph got it wrong in name and execution but Porsche refined it and called it a Targa.!!!

I've never seen one. If not, then the Targa Top would be a good alternative to improve aerodynamics (Verses the open car), assuming you kept the solid roof panel in place. I have seen a few aftermarket plastic hardtops, in fact my race car came with one, but never a true hardtop from the factory. Just an observation. Any comments?
