It's tempting : a Lithium battery, discarding the alternator and an empty fire extinguisher : then I would be at the minimum weight of 851kgs!

I use a lithium. Weighs four lbs. no alternator. 12 cell. No problem past two years. Charges easily with their charger. Voltage at start of 20 min race 13.4 and at end 13.2. Will last all weekend. Assuming your car is in good tune and fires up with minimal crank.

Its time for some new electrons in the Duke of Oil (TR4A as named by Hardy's wife Ellie) and there should be something better than a heavy ole wetcell type. I know some of the Optima batts are popular, but what is the flavour du jour? And will it need some sort of special charger?
