I use a lithium.  Weighs four lbs.  no alternator.  12 cell.  No problem  past two years.  Charges easily with their charger.  Voltage at start of 20 min race 13.4 and at end 13.2.  Will last all weekend.  Assuming your car is in good tune and fires up with minimal crank.
