hi guys,
Halon is a liquid under pressure, turns to gas when released - I used to fill Halon bottles where I worked - had a tank of Halon come in with a little water mixed in, turned to an acid, what a mess that required recalling a big bunch of bottles that had to be replaced

Scott, I'm not an expert, but I have worked with Halon in a computer room environment before that was taboo. My understanding is that Halon is a gas, there's nothing to solidify. As long as you have pressure in the tank you're good.
The fact that there's no solids was why it was such a good material for use in computer rooms. To test the installation we actually did a Halon dump in the computer room (like a 20 by 50 foot room). It was pretty impressive. Big wall of fog rolled across the room.
I'd like a second opinion, I could be wrong on the longevity for some obscure reason.

I’ve got a 5 lb Halon bottle with nozzles in my car that is at least 10 years old, probably more. I’ve heard the product cakes up and will no longer work after a while, so I’m interested in making sure the car is as safe as can be.
I’ve looked at replacement systems (this one is SPA, they no longer service Halon) and they will cost at least $700 if I want something that is legal for SCCA.
Anyone know if the Halon actually does become unserviceable, or have experience getting the Halon bottle tested/refilled? Yes, Halon is ozone depleting and no longer sold. However, I’ve still got a tank full!
