Mike, I've had very good success with melted wax on fasteners, although haven't tried it with head studs.  Heat the studs really hot ("really hot" necessary due to distance from the threads) then hold a candle against them and let the wax melt into the threads.  Allow to cool, cross your fingers and back them out
