Provanance! Eye of the beholder and Labors of love

I've sold two TR race cars, both for my " cost ", which is defined as what I paid for the car plus the parts costs of the bonafide improvements. The first was the yellow TR3 now raced by B John Hasty. I paid $5500 for it and mostly kept it up while I raced, fixing some floor problems and rebuilding suspension. I sold it for $6000 after three years, to the guy who sold it to Larry Young two years later. Larry upgraded the car and increased its value, probably by the cost of the overdrive, the better suspension and the Southwick conversion. I bought a 5 grand TR4 and put in a Southwick, a new roll bar, alloy hubs, close ratio, etc and sold it for 12 large, which was my cost less labor with all that I had done.B

I replaced that car with a car with real history, '67/68 Runoff's. I hope it is worth $25000, the some of its parts, but in todays market, with all the excess supply I'd doubt I could get it, but B I wouldnt sell it for less. If it didn't have the race history I probably would not have spent as much on paint or some of the parts. I think you can still build a servicable race car under ten grand, and although we all have our preferences, newbies are wanting B the lowest cost of entry. I think the higher priced cars, without provanance, are stuck in a tough spot.

I wonder how Wayne Carini is doing with the $50000 Group 44 copy TR4? Way overpriced by my formulas.

however, in the last 20 years the image of the TRIUMPH has come up and brought
the value with it.

i'd like to think that the FOT has been a large part of that.

i am likely a bit too sensitive, but recent column on the MITTY didnt seem to
present the TRIUMPH in it's best light. anyone else notice it?B B if not, then
it is a non-issue.
