Thanks for all the replies. We had a ring gear lose a few teeth at Watkins
Glen and we're trying to figure out why it happened.
The TR4 has a Detroit locker and I noticed there was no thrust button
installed, and I was wondering if that might have had something to do with it.
Since it also has the Southwick axle conversion, that's probably not the
reason.
Big thanks to Henry Frye whose spare ring and pinion saved the weekend for
us!

I think it provides the spacing that allows you to set the factory spec end
play with the shims at the end of the axle housing.
If you have the Southwick conversion or IRS, Iit is not required.

Amici,
Can someone please explain to me the function of the "thrust button"
(the cylindrical-shaped spacer that fits inside the locker between the axle
shafts) and if/why it must be installed on a solid axle car (TR-4)?
Thanks!
