I am a long time member of SVRA, and have great respect for their
professional approach to such matters. I commend them on their dedication to safety
issues. This head restraint issue is especially important with our hobby's recent
experience (our own Jack Drews, Surjit Hermon, etc.). But making it
mandatory for everyone but Pre-World War II cars with seven months notice strikes me
as a little radical. SCCA, VSCDA and many others still have this issue as
'Highly Recommended', allowing it to be remain a personal decision. They are all
in favor of such devices, but have not made them mandatory. I bite my tongue
for appearing to throw stones at someone who wants to protect me. I should be
thanking them. But if it is critically important and needs to be mandatory,
why waive the issue for Prewar cars? I can think of several that go faster
than I do, and they have antique steering and brakes.
Just my thoughts...
