"Legal passing is fine, but gaining an advantage
by running off the course is what is despicable."
Yes! We are in complete agreement on that!
The point of the matter is that Hamilton did gain an advantage
(intentional or otherwise) in cutting the chicane, & he promptly gave
up his position. If the stewards didn't agree that what he did was
proper, then they should have taken action at the time.
Like the man told me once, we pay for the entire racetrack so we should
get our moneys worth, and use all of it, and I have to admit that it
feels good to put that inside wheel up on the berm when the weight is
transferred to the outside... but I seriously doubt that Hamilton
intentionally went up on a WET PAINTED berm, thinking that he was gonna
pull off a hero move & make it stick.
Hopefully we can just agree to disagree on this one, the world would be
very boring if we all thought the same...

Legal passing is fine, but gaining an advantage
by running off the course is what is despicable. Yes, I agree that
most circuits
limit passing in F1 races but that needs to
be addressed in the configuration of the
circuits themselves.
Far be20it
for me to determine
how to improve the sport
but the
way I can see it, the stewards
got it
right in this
case.

Holy smokes, is that ever a lousy idea. F1 has enough trouble having
some real racing. Would you really
race at a track
that
penalized your use of the kerbs by
ripping off your suspension. Most tracks use FIA kerbing, which is the
legitimate name of the
alligator bumps. You use them in any turn
that
benefits from them--even
at the
club level. Walls, Armco, and overly aggressive curbs eliminate passing
opportunities. Racing is passing.

I think that the kerbs (curbs) should be made

itA
0off, they will lose their suspension.

Incidentally, I don't think Kimi was wrong to
shove Hamilton off the track in the chicane either. In a competition
at that level
you are not owed racing room, you have to take it. If Alonso had been
in Kimi's
shoes Hamilton would have lost his
right front wheel.

Great race, torturous ending. I also consider Hamilton's

I AM a Kimi fan, he's a great driver,
I was cheering him on while he passed Hamilton at first and then pulled
out a
lead, and I was in agony when he first lost the lead and then hit
the
wall. But Hamilton's
pass was squeaky clean. I can't see
how the FIA could even countenance a penalty.
It was spectacular driving, well within the cut and thrust of
competition and in full compliance with the rules of surrendering a
gain made off track. I believe the FIA has added an element of
over-regulation
and fundamental
unfairness to the entire F1 scene. I don't care
if Max Mosely dresses up like Eva Braun and screws goats, but his
leadership of the FIA has damaged the sport by
moving victory
from the driver's seat to the steward's fat ass.
For that I'd
support giving him the boot.

was confirmed with
both the team & race officials at the time.
I watched the race, and the replay of the last 3
laps at least a
dozen
times,
and I can't see how he put Kimi
out.
Also20consider the dry tires
& wet track conditions.
Personaly I thought that it was
a fine example of driving since he was
well alongside Kimi when he went off; the alternative being that he
would surely have taken both of them out of the race, had he not gone
off course.
I also understand that there are some who just don't favor
Hamilton/McClaren,
evidenced by some of the politics and "soap opera"
issues of late...
I respect your opinion
Thank you!

I will NOT sign that petition. The way I saw the situation, while
Hamilton
did back off a bit and allow Kimi to get back
in front,
he did not back
off
enough to give up his inertia and maintained it long
enough to
immediately
get back in the lead.
In my humble opinion, the penalty is just. His Rookie actions caused
Kimi
to
crash out and that does
nothing to erase that outcome.
I would have black flagged Hamilton and not even
allowed him to claim
3rd0D
place. That would have been justice in my opinion.

I realize that a
lot of you were busy last Sunday,
and probably didn't
catch the Spa race, and on-line petitions have questionable value, but
this
is one that may
be worthy...
Last night there were approx 15,000, this morning nearly 50,000. There
are a lot of pissed off F1 fans!
