[Roadsters] Radio Schematic

Will do, but for now, the electrolytic capacitors are all the ones that have +/- polarity noted on the schematic. One of them is a large 500mF one that hangs off the incoming power line, and the rest of the electrolytics are little “can” styled ones on the circuit board, The paper capacitor is a big wax covered thing (5mF, 500v) that is wired up by the speaker output wires. Paper capacitors went away in the early ‘70s, and would generally be replaced with a “film” capacitor (usually a polypropylene or some other plastic as the dielectric instead of paper). For more details on re-capping, https://antiqueradio.org/recap.htm#identifying is a good reference and also informative on what to use if you can’t fine anything with the exact capacitance and/or voltage rating.

I’ll try to get some before and after pics to post also, but like I say, it may be a while.

You should post all the MOUSER parts on 311 with a photo of what you plan on replacing. I have 2-3 radios and it would be good to know what CAPs to replace and if you get any better audio or more channels afterwards, and others may join in and give some other tips.

Thanks to all who responded. The schematic that Greg attached appears to be a better copy than the one in the radio user’s manual on 311s where some of the component values are not clearly legible. I got all the electronics and controls removed from the case yesterday and have a Mouser Electronics order for all the electrolytic caps and the one big paper cap ready to go. There’s only one electrolytic that is visibly bad, but always a good idea to replace all the electrolytic and paper capacitors. The ceramic and mica caps rarely go bad. I also found a questionable antenna connection. Will repost when I get around to working on it… though that may not be until after the holidays.

Thanks / Dan

The Radio Schematic ii in one of the last pages of the manual.

I have the radio schematic for the positive ground radio in my 1963 SPL 310
