I agree with Pete and have used this method for 45yrs without issue. If you’re looking for something more scientific and or written documentation then I’ve attached a scan from my Datsun 280Z factory manual. I know it’s not the car in question but it gives some useful information.

You mean the big castle nut that holds the hub onto the front axle? If yes, there is no torque spec. You basically tighten it down whilst spinning the hub until the hub stops, then back off a little so the hub spins and you can get the cotter pin in.
