521 Pickups came with different engines depending on when
manufactured. L521 pickups came with J13 engines and 4.88
differential gears. PL521 pickups came with L16 engines and 4.37
differential gear. The PL521 pickups came with rectangular side
marker lamps front and rear. The L521 pickups came with side
reflectors. The L520 pickup production ended in mid 1968. The early
L521 trucks were very similar to the L520 except for the sheet metal
in front of the windshield. PL521 pickups started with the 1970 model.

The pictures of the truck don't show any indication of side markers.

L520 dash tops were painted sheet metal while PL521 dash tops were
vinyl and cracked in the normal manner. It is possible to install a
L520 dash top in a PL521 without much effort.
