I found a great write up on installing new sockets in '69 tear drop side
lights at 311s.org, but for some reason, I can't get into it this morning?
So I'll post my info here.
The article uses Dormax part number 85806 sockets with just a slight
modification to make it fit down in the light body. About 3 minutes with a
Dremel tool does the trick. What the article did not say was what bulb to
use. The Dormax package recommends an 1156 bulb, but it is two fat to fit
down inside. I found a type 89 would work, but is a bit short and would
sit way down inside the body of the light. I'll probably use them on the
rear side lights. They are rated at 13 volts, 7.5 watts. Then I found a
type 105, 12.8 volts, 12.8 watts, that has the same base, but is about 3/8"
taller. That allows the filament to sit above the body of the light so it
should be brighter. Has anyone had problems with melting the lenses using
a 12 watt bulb? I'd hate to lose one of mine experimenting.
