[Roadsters] 5spd into a 1500?

Craig,

The shifter on 5-speeds is further forward than that on 4-speeds. To
put a
5-speed into a 1500, I think you will have to cut the tunnel. Later
cars -- at
least some -- had tunnel openings which would accommodate either
4- or
5-speeds. When I put the U20 into my '66 1600, I kept the four-speed
because I
didn't want to cobb up the interior or have a new trim plate
custom-made.

Gary

although I know technically it's not a problem,
wondered people's thoughts on
putting a 5spd or a 1600 4spd box into a
1500...in the long run, probably will
end up selling the car if that makes
any difference. I think Sid told me once
there was a shifter for something
that would bring it up through the original
hole in the tunnel if using a
5spd...
