hi everyone

CDM sells upgraded axles, with either the roadster or truck splines. i'm pretty sure they're cheaper than $1500, if memory serves.

I blew the rear out with a hot u20. It ripped several teeth off the r&p. I was running 11" slicks at the time. You can probably run on any street tires you want without worry. I sold my limited slip diff and had enough money for a narrowed rx7 rear end with moser axles. It should handle 450 hp and be pretty cheap to fix if necessary.

btw- the car is still for sale

This question seems to come up periodically both here and in the
311s.orgforum. Here's my read on the situation.If you're doing a swap
that's going
to offer much more torque and power than a well built U-20 have Currie
Enterprises, Moser or some other vendor build you a bullet proof rear axle.
IRRC, turnkey pricing was around $1500.

Think about it. Any of these guys can build the axles and housing to any
width, tack on or fab new spring pads, shock mounts, etc. It's not a complex
setup to build. Go with a Ford 9 inch R&P assembly and you have a huge
assortment of ratios and a number of limited slip or locker assemblies in
a quick and easy to change third member. I'd guess for far less than finding
an OEM LSD assembly, gears, bearings etc, to rebuild the stock axles to
stock specs, you could have a custom setup in any ratio (and probably a
"spare" third member with another ratio) including a set of Will Wood discs
brakes if you want that'll handle anything you stuff into the engine bay,
short of maybe a Rolls Royce/Merlin. :>)

FWIW,
Ron
