[Roadsters] Continuing Solex Problem

I have a set of old-style Solex carburetors on my 68 Datsun 2000. They have
been a never-ending source of trouble and had been recently rebuilt by an
expert, but the problem has continued. The rear carburetor works fine, but the
front carburetor leaks (this may just be an issue with seals) and the idle
circuit on the front carburetor doesn't seem to work at all.
I'm wondering if the front carburetor idle system is not supposed to work
and would appreciate hearing from any other owners of solex carburetors as to
their experiences.
In particular, if there is anyone in Los Angeles who would care to consult,
or at least meet me at Skip Miller's shop (my mechanic) in Altadena with
their solex carb roadster, so we can compare the way they are hooked up.
Thanks very much
