[Bricklin] Brake Booster push rod length

I have installed a Wilwood front disc brake kit and I appear to be having
issues with the push rod length.  I set it per AMC Technical Reference
Manual(b1.185-1.200b), but this is with the booster being out of the car
and not installed. I had to go outside of the spec to get good brake pedal
feel and not have to mash it to the floor to stop.  I have been working in
half turn increments and it gets better with each adjustment.  Are the
specifications incorrect for adjustment installed in the car?  Do I have to
continue making adjustments until the feel of braking is correct?

I had a similar experience with the stock system.  I made the adjustments
until they disc rotor expanded due to heat and was almost stopping me when
coasting.  Luckily I was just down the street from the house when this
occurred and I was able to back it off to prevent this from occurring.
