Didn't someone at one time weld a extension strip around the inside edge of the door frame to double the width of the glue seam area? It seems like that would give a much better bond to the door skin. It would add a little weight to the door. But a wider metal contact area (Even if only done to the roof area.) would have to be stronger if it was double the width, perpaired right and modern glues were used.
