My Alpine has the license plate bracket mounted to the body below the rear
bumper. Is this what everyone is referring to or is mine different than both
of those?

Subject: [Alpines] VIN break for SV rear bumpers
Some folks asked at what point did Rootes change over to rear bumpers with
number
plate lamps mounted to them. The following information comes from the
Rootes
parts catalogue:
NAS & Germany, also all markets from *Note
Fitted on and from Chassis Nos.: B395016692/3, 16703, 16708/9,
16711/12, 16714,16717, 16719/20, 16722-16729 inclusive, 16731/2/3,
16735/6/7, 16739-16743 inclusive, 16745, 16746/7, 16749, 16753
inclusive, 16755/6, 16758, 16760 to 16767 inclusive, 16769,
16772/3, 16777, then from 16779 onwards.
Now, my notes. I've included just the sequential part of the VIN. Also, for
example, a number like 16772/3 means cars number 16772 and 16773. Also,
cars
with this bumper used a separate and different number plate lamp part
number
from earlier cars.
As these very late VIN's were built after the end of Tiger Mk II assembly,
they
don't seem to be used on Tigers. I have a photo of Tiger II number 626 (the
last II was #633), and it uses the older version of the Alpine V rear
bumper.
