my experience was a tr4 od tran in a tr3 (not tr3a). it ran for a while (about 7 miles over several days) as the oil drained out. I don’t remember any symptoms other than at some point, and it seemed sudden, it would not shift at all. (that was about 6 months ago so my memory may not be exact.) pulled the tran as everyone said it was the fork, and took it to a british car repair shop. they told me that after filling it there was a dinner plate size puddle under it the next morning. they did a great job of sealing it, and I’ve since run the car with no issues.

Understood - and good to know. But just curious. Will it shift OK sometimes, and then refuse to go into gear as this symptom sounds to be?

fyi – if a transmission is essentially out of oil, it won’t shift. ask me how I know.
