I'm evaluating the timing chain on my TR6 powered TVR as I work through
changing the front crankshaft seal. I found that the scribed lines and punch
marks are not aligning after turning the crankshaft clockwise to the TDC
position. It appears that the camshaft is off, retarded by one tooth. Though
easy to resolve at this stage, I have to wonder whether it jumped a tooth on
its own, or was put together incorrectly by a previous owner. My double row
timing chain has +/_ 3/8" slack at mid span on the tensioner side, which does
not seem to be extreme. Has anyone known one of these to jump time on its own?
Any guidance will be welcomed. Thanks
Bill Cooper
