A couple of months ago I wrote to the list concerning an experience that my
father and I had at the HSR Sebring race in February. Without going into
detail (if you want details, email me or check the archives), at Sebring, it
was made clear to us by Jack Lewis that our car was not welcome at HSR
events. Anyway, a week after the event, my father wrote a letter to HSR
detailing our experience. He was not hopeful that Mr. Lewis' decision would
be countermanded by the HSR execs, but at least wanted to air our grievance
and get some final closure. As of this date (over two months since the
letter was sent) he has received no acknowledgement from anyone at HSR about
his letter or concerns. He is taking it in stride and is already making
plans to race with another organization. One of the listers commented in a
email that the folks at HSR are "gentlemen", but rudeness and arrogance are
not traits that I would connect with gentlemen (perhaps in Georgia, the word
gentleman means "those who cannot tolerate criticism"). Who knows. All I
know is that he addressed his concern with HSR and they have not attempted
to contact him about it.
My initial, posting generated a lot of replies, many with helpful
information about groups that would welcome participation by my Father and
his race car. I passed them on to him and, as I said, he is making plans to
race with another, more accommodating club. I wanted to thank everybody who
replied, even the folks who did not agree with our position - diversity
makes it all the much more interesting. As for me, I should be finished
with my TR6 racer by the end of the year (if I had no family/work duties, I
could probably get it done sooner, but that's how it goes) and next year I
will be (hopefully) running some events on the west coast. With any luck,
I'll be flying out east a couple of times this year to help crew for my
Dad's car. So if you see us at an event (81 black Jaguar XKE), come on over
and introduce yourself.

Thanks again,

Hugh Barber
