I used Monroe Gas shocks of the sort on sale that week at my local Canadian 
Tire store.  I think that it's so easy to do so much better than stock 
shocks these days, that almost anything is a big improvement.  Night and 
day on my 2000 GM full size van, and it only had 8,000 miles on it.
