Ever been to the Blue/Grey SVRA race and seen the Civil war encampment and
re-enactments or the tractor shows etc that run concurent. I'll agree that
teen driver ed might be a good step, but these same "do-gooders", that
complain and organize things like CARE, could care less about that. Teens
"shouldn't be taught to drive fast and that's what they'd learn there". We
also have to admit that some people just have a different agenda to life and
can't understand our point of view, which is obviously wrong. I think they
consider all those on the other side to be deviant greaseballs and low lifes.
These are the same $%# who run their leaf blowers or weed wackers all day long
in all our neighborhoods, making sure every last leaf is accounted for and
making me sigh with relief when the go back into their air conditioning, so I
can hear myself think.

Get the community involved in the Summit Point track. Running races, Bicycle
races. Community fairs. Add more value
to the community, not just dollars. Open the facility free of charge to the
fire departments and police. Give
teenagers a place to learn to drive, safely.
I am not sure what they currently do, but being a good neighbor means more
than
dollars. Things have
changed and if we want more tracks built, we need to show how a track can
co-exist in a community. That
means noise restriction and limiting hours of operation. Cooperation is
what
is needed, on both sides.
Bridgehampton did not offer much to the community, sadly. The "we were here
first" attitude tends not to work.
So, think about a big pictue. If the tables were turned, how would you want
your concerns addressed?

Subject: Summit Point Zoning Woes
Hello All,
I just received an email attachment from a fellow flagger friend who
participates a great deal @ Summit Point. Apparently our fellow racer & track
owner, Bill Scott, is coming up against a local group who wish to limit his
activities at the track.
The group is calling themselves Citizens Against Raceway Expansion (C.A.R.E.)
Under their proposals use of the track would be restricted to 9am - 5pm on
Mondays-Saturdays and from noon-5pm on Sundays. Noise levels would be
restricted to 65db. They are also looking at restricting the anit terrorist
school activities.
This is most disappointing news. This is exactly how we lost Bridgehampton!
