"Uncle Jack"
I heard the same thing several times, so a few years ago I built an alum. air
box for my Datsun 1600 vintage roadster. It makes a big difference on hot
days when pushing the car hard in a race.
Don't know any secrets-just a box, with a curved baffle in the rear, to feed
the rear carb. and reduce turbulence. I cut holes in the side of the box,
using a gasket as a pattern, so box side is sandwiched between carbs. and
manifold. On the front, I used alum. and utilized all the grill area to the
side of the radiator and fed air to the box.
I made everything with construction paper and tape, then transferred these
templates to alum. Box is assembled with sheet metal screws for ease of
fitting in and removing. With a little polish, box looks good.
It does make a difference in hot weather performance. GO FOR IT!
