    I would say that "tread" is an extremely generous description of the 
faint impressions on some the new performance tires.  When compared to 
dedicated vintage race tires Like the Dunlops or even the Hoosier Street 
TD's, it's not hard to wee why these tires are considered a rather different 
animal.
