Many racers, especially in open cars, don't like to wear open face helmets. 
I 
do, as they look more "period" than closed face helmets, in vintage
cars....... 
 
One piece suits with underwear will protect you as well as a 3 piece 
suit....... 
 
That's why many orgs allow them.......you are not necessarily skimping on 
safety equipment by choosing them.......
