Regarding the loss of revenue from not smog checking cars made between 66 and
72, here is a counterpoint. A Ferrari Daytona is virtualy impossible to smog
in Calif......So if some one sells one it will be sold out of
Calif.....Europe perhaps.....But if that car were sold in Calif the revenue
that sale would produce for the state would make up for the lost smog fees
for a hell of a lot of cars......Typical price of a Daytona is around
$175,000........What is the use or sales tax on that? and how much are the
registration fees on a $175,000 car? Bruce Trenery at Fantasy junction
figures that a Daytona sale generates about $15,000 for the state. But if the
car can't be sold in Calif because it can't pass smog , those fees are
lost...
And as far as being a poluter; A survey in Ferrari Market Newsletter found
that the average Daytona owner puts about 400 miles a year on the car.
As usual the boneheads in Sacto can only understand money so pass this on to
them when you contact them to support SB 42.
